Well Cameron's Big Gig was held in Greenock Town Hall and we raised more than £7,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
We are absolutely delighted with the gig and the whole night went absolutely fine. We had put a lot of pressure on ourselves at the start of the night but it all worked out in the end. There were around 400 people there on the night and we think we have made around £7,000. We were aiming to raise £5,000, so we are very pleased.
We also played a video on the night, created by 2Dynamic Ltd (you can see this below). This video is a tribute to Cameron and our way of showing everyone what a happy smiley wee boy he was.
At the gig we had so many great bands playing that we did not have time to hold the charity auction of music memorabilia. So the plan is to have another event in a different venue. That will also give us a chance to get some more items for it.
The auction, now being planned for a future date, is sure to bump up our total as it will contain signed merchandise from Pete Doherty’s band Babyshambles, who visited Inverclyde before the gig and decided to help the fund out by donating a bag of goodies for fans to bid for, and we also have memorabilia from Primal Scream, Texas and Snow Patrol.
Cameron’s Big Gig was organised in memory of a beautiful little boy, Cameron Lindsay, who died aged 18 months in 2005. He was treated for a rare heart condition at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and we organised the concert and auction to say thank you to the staff there.
We had plenty of help with the gig and local bands queued up to play free of charge, including Eli, No 1 Son, Tony Shoebox, My Latest Novel and The Wheels.
